Add a little magic to your St. Patrick’s Day read alouds with a Story Spinner. St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to pull out your favorite story books. Some of my favorites are:
- Fiona’s Luck by Teresa Bateman
- Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie dePaola
- St. Patrick’s Day in the Morning by Eve Bunting
- The Littlest Leprechaun by Brandi Dougherty
- How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace
After your read aloud, students can work in partners to “spin and chat” about the story using the Story Wheel. (Give each pair a Story Wheel, a jumbo-sized paper clip, and a sharpened pencil.) Another variation is to give students the Word Wheel and write several vocabulary words on the board from the story. Students can spin and chat about each word using the Word Wheel. Download a free copy of the Story Wheel in our Free Resource Library! (We’d love to have you a part of the Literacy 4 Kids family with our FREE VIP Membership. This membership gives you access to our newsletters, latest blog posts, sales, freebies, and access to our Free Resource Library.)
